TOURISM IN MEDELLÍN
There
was a time when Medellin, the second city of Colombia, was known worldwide for
drug cartels and their traquetos; it was one of the most dangerous cities in
the world ... and now? Today, Medellin is one of the most modern cities in
Colombia, with one of the most advanced transport systems -the only one with
metro-, neighborhoods among the most elegant and expensive in the country and
one of the best places to go. , as the Colombians call to party.

Medellín offers
visitors a number of ways to get their adrenaline going, many of which offer
spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
- Paragliding – This is one of the most popular tourist activities, the action takes place in the mountains north of the city, about an hour’s bus ride from the Caribe bus terminal. Flights are weather dependent, but otherwise available every day of the week from several companies.
- Mountain biking and ATVs – Given the rugged topography, it should come as no surprise that there’s ample opportunity to go riding in and around the city. and unique climate of Medellín is something to behold. Set 4,905 feet (1,495
meters) above sea level in a valley surrounded by tall green mountains, its
close proximity to the equator ensures constant spring-like temperatures year
round.

lends itself well to enjoying the dozens of parks and plazas to be found in and
around the city. Each space offers its own unique design and personality, with
all of them being excellent places to grab a seat and watch the locals go about
their daily lives.

FOOD
Eating a tray paisa -the paisas are the inhabitants of Medellín-: it is the most typical and best-known dish of Medellín, although in reality it is quite new, since it was born around the 1950s, some say that as a dish of the peasants , others that like plate of the capos of the mafias of the drug. Be that as it may, this forceful dish not suitable for vegetarians or hypercholesterolemic is delicious. Bring nothing less than: rice, ground beef (picada), pork rinds (fried pork), fried egg, patacón (fried plantain), chorizo, beans (pineapple), tomato, avocado and arepa, accompanied by hogao (a sauce with tomato and onion).
