TYPICAL DANCE

Erotic dance with which the mapalé fishing is celebrated. It is said that this dance was born as a song and dance of fishermen's work that was performed, accompanied by drums, as fun at night after finishing their day.

The mapalé is a dance that represents the erotic encounter between man and woman. The dancers move exalted and accelerated and with great strength make jumps, falls, movement of shoulders and hips in a constant confrontation between the man and the woman, following the rhythm of the music, which is quite fast.

It is an Afro-Colombian dance that emerged on the Colombian Caribbean coast thanks to the cultural influence of the African slaves trafficked during the conquest of America.

Since it emerged in a very hot climate, and is still dancing like this, women usually dance in short, tight, brightly colored dresses with shoulder washes and skirts that highlight the movement. The men wear fishing pants, red bayetilla and do not wear a shirt, in some cases they wear a white shirt with sleeves rolled up.
